Do
You Want to Niche?
Happy
New Year to you first of all. I hope that 2005 is the year that
your practice really takes off and you begin to make the difference
in the world that you want to make.
Have
you been considering niching your practice but you seem to draw
back from making the final decision? Are you going around in
circles about what niche could be right for you?
If
so, the future issues of the Authentic Practice Newsletter are
going to be of major interest to you. If you've already chosen
a niche then I'm sure that you'll still find value in the material
that I'll share with you over the coming weeks.
Changes
to the Authentic Practice Newsletter
In
the last issue of the Authentic Practice Newsletter I promised
you some exciting developments. Well, I'm going to focus on
a particular subject area each month so that you can access
more in depth information and structure your learning much better.
And I may even throw in some teleclasses too :-)
The
month of January will be focused on the idea of niching your
coaching practice. I know from my work with coaches that this
can be a very difficult area for some yet it can make a big
difference to your ability to attract clients too. Once this
'tough nut' is cracked the rest of your m@rketing efforts will
be much easier.

5 Reasons you may not have niched your practice just yet
Here
are 5 reasons I commonly hear coaches mention as to why they've
not yet niched their practice. Which one best describes you?
1.
Don't know what - Some coaches are a bit unsure of
what exactly a niche is. They know it's a m@rketing term but
they are unclear on what it's about or the extensive benefits
that it provides. As a result they miss out on attracting
many clients into their practice.
If
you fall into this camp, consider educating yourself on the
area of niching. Once you learn about what a niche is and
how it applies to your practice I'm sure that you'll want
to find your niche.
2.
Don't know how - Another group of coaches know what
a niche is but don't really know how to go about implementing
it into their practice. As a result they do not implement
anything and experience the rewards that niching can bring.
If
you find yourself in this position learn from people who have
niched their coaching practice successfully.
3.
Don't want to - I've met some coaches who are adamant
that they do not want to niche their practice in any shape
or form. They wish to remain a f'ree spirit, go with the flow
and let the universe take care of the details. When I ask
them what results they're getting many of them begin to cough
and splutter ;->
If
you fall into this camp then it's your choice and so are the
results of your choice.
4.
Not just yet... - This group of coaches fall into
the 'Niching Mañana' category. Sure, they know what
niching is, how to do it and the difference it would make
to their practice. However, they say that they'll niche their
practice someday - just not today.
If
you find yourself in this category, make a start and do something
(hey anything!) today.
5.
Don't want to choose the wrong one - Some coaches
are held back by the fear of making the wrong choice for their
niche. What if they choose the wrong niche? Will the heavens
fall from the sky? What's the worst thing that could happen
if you do?
I've
shared this with some of you before but a number of years
ago Nicola Cairncross gave me some sage advice. She said "Shaun.
Choose a niche - any niche. Make a start on that niche. If
it doesn't work out so what - no one will know about it anyway
and you can always choose another!"
So,
do you want to niche?
