How
to Enjoy Networking Events
Do
you find that you frequently need to engage in networking activities
to attract clients into your coaching practice? If yes, do you
enjoy it? Unless you're a rare breed or a party animal, you
may find these events stressful and regard them as a necessary
evil.
However,
you may find that you begin to enjoy them more if you make a
few changes in your approach and, more importantly, adjust your
mindset.
A
lot of people attend networking events and focus mainly on getting
their own message across - including some coaches. If you haven't
stood across from Mr (or Mrs) boring at a networking meeting
excessively talking about themselves and their business yet
you soon will do. Here's a tip - only put a few snacks on your
plate so you have a ready made excuse to make your exit ;-)
Effective
networking is more about focusing on what you can give and do
for others rather than what you can get. It's really all about
helping others. This shift in mindset can make a big difference
in your enjoyment of the events you attend.
How
to Get Your Coaching Fees Teleclass
Are
you unsure about how to charge for your coaching services? Maybe
you feel uncomfortable discussing this topic with prospective
clients. Well, on Wednesday, 26th October at 8pm (3pm EST and
12noon PST), I will be delivering an informative teleclass on
how you can actually get the fees you set in your coaching practice.
To get your complimentary place on the teleclass, just send
a blank e-mail.

Some points to consider
Here
are some things to make the events you attend more enjoyable
and more productive:
1.
Go to Listen - As
you're a coach, you'll already be great at this skill. Focus
on the person in front of you, what's going on for them and
their business.
2.
Go to Give - Have the mindset of how you can help
the people you meet at a networking event (rather than primarily
what they can give to you). Focus on what you can give to
others to improve their situation. You can give resources,
ideas or contacts for example.
3.
Go to Share - Obviously you'll want to spend some
of the time sharing some information about yourself and your
coaching practice. However, do remember that most people just
love to talk about themselves.
4.
Go to Follow-up - Taking
the time to go to an event is all well and good but if you
don't follow-up with the people you meet afterwards your efforts
will prove fruitless.
Follow
through on any commitments you make to the people you meet.
If possible, arrange a follow-up meeting with useful contacts
you meet to be held outside the event so you can focus on
helping the other.
The
follow-up steps will make a big difference in the productivity
of your efforts and this factor separates the pros from the
amateurs.
P.S.
Would
you believe that this is the 100th issue of the Authentic Practice
newsletter? Yes, I've been writing this newsletter consistently
on a weekly basis since November 2003. That's over 50,000 words
- and I'm as proud as punch of this achievement.
However,
I want to make sure that future issues of the newsletter really
meet your needs. Complete
this short questionnaire I'll send you the 100 previous
issues of the Authentic Practice newsletter.
So,
are you enjoying networking events?
With very best
wishes,
Shaun
