The
Dangerous Mantra
Almost
all coaches I meet seem to utter the same mantra of 'I want
more clients, I want more clients…', ad infinitum. If you are
amongst this bunch, I invite you to go to your sink and splash
yourself with some cool water. Why?
I
believe that the 'I want more clients' mantra is a dangerous
and very limiting verse for you and your coaching practice.
Even if your wish comes true, you end up with a coaching practice
that is full of one-to-one clients. Great you may say.
Watch out though as you will then end up in the trap of exchanging
your valuable time for money. Think about it - if you're not
on the end of the phone or face-to-face with a client you don't
get any of the green stuff. Not good.
You
know that you only have so much time and therefore with the
one-to-one mindset you can only earn so much money. Eventually
you reach a point of saturation. How many coaching clients can
you really serve well in each month?
So
what's better?

Tips on escaping the dangerous mantra
Here
are some pointers to help you to move away from the limiting
one-to-one coaching mindset:
1.
Leverage - Look for ways that you can leverage out
your time out so you're not just limited to delivering your
coaching services one-on-one. How many ways can you think
of where you can you go from one-to-one to one-to-many?
For
example, you may do group coaching in person or via a teleclass.
This way you can reach more people in a given hour of your
time.
2.
Extend - You may consider extending your services
so that you offer additional ways that you can deliver to
groups of people instead of to just one person at a time.
For
example, a number of coaches successfully provide coaching
and training services so they are able to deliver more frequently
to groups of people. Here you give people more options for
utilising your skills with a one-to-many model.
3.
Intellectualise - Look for ways in which you can
turn your knowledge and skills into intellectual products
that you create once and distribute forever.
For
example, you may have noticed that a number of coaches have
created electronic products (e-books, e-courses, etc) so they
have the potential to generate revenue 24 hours a day. What's
more they don't have to be there to deliver the product -
they can even be in bed as the lucre floats their way :-)
So,
do you have a dangerous mantra?

wishes,
