The
Only Reason People Want You
If
I were to ask you for the main reason that clients want to work
with you, would you know what it is? It surprises me that very
few coaches can answer this question immediately. Most require
more time and thought. That's disastrous and here's why...
If
you are not crystal clear on the main reason that people work
with you as their coach, what reasons are you giving prospective
clients to choose you?
So
what is the main reason?
In
essence the only reason that people work with you is to receive
the results they get from your coaching process. Despite your
possible delusions they are not really interested in coaching
at all - they are mainly focused on the results that it can
help them to achieve.
Case
in point. Do people really want to spend an hour with you on
the telephone whilst you coach them or do they want the benefits
they'll receive once they carry out the actions they agree to?
You
see, on the whole (sweeping generalisation coming up...) people
are self-centred and focused mainly on their own needs and wants.
If they could get the results they desire by not utilising your
coaching services they would do... but usually they can't. Now,
here's the big kicker...
Can
you confidently and instantly articulate the results that people
get from working with you? I find that most coaches struggle
to do this and that's precisely why they struggle to attract
more clients.
Now
here is an even more important question to consider:
If
you can't clearly articulate the results people get from working
with you, how on earth do you expect the prospective client
to work out it out?
Note:
If you don't do this you are effectively leaving it to prospective
clients to bust their brains trying to work it out for themselves.
This is crazy right? Go on, spell it out for them :-)

Tips on finding the results
Here
are a few tips to help you to discover the results that clients
get from working with you as their coach:
1.
Dip into the past - Have a look at the clients you've
worked with in the past and consider the bigger picture. What
were the ultimate benefits and results they gained from working
with you?
Have
a look at your previous client files and notes to discover
the actions they took
and the real tangible results they achieved.
2.
Back to the future - Now consider the clients you
are currently working with. Project yourself into the future
and identify the likely results that they are going to receive
from working with you.
3.
Delve a little deeper - In addition to identifying
the individual results, consider the ultimate benefits that
people get from working with you.
For
example, you may have helped someone find a career they love.
What are the ultimate benefits here? A sense of satisfaction,
peace of mind, etc.
4.
Ask - An easy way to identify the benefits people
get from working with you is to ask your current and past
clients. By doing this you'll also have develop a source of
testimonials that you can use too.
