Authentic Practice

The Authentic Practice Newsletter provides invaluable information that you can use in your coaching practice to get more clients and contains absolutely no fluff. Why not recommend this newsletter to your coaching friends and colleagues too?

The Passionate Practice

Are you as excited and passionate about your coaching practice as you were when you first started out on your coaching journey? If not, you may want to re-examine where you're going and what your original intentions were for becoming a coach in the first place.

Normally, the situations I discuss in these newsletters relate to the experiences of coaches I know or observe. This time, the title and subject of the newsletter comes directly from my own experience. This is one of the most candid newsletters I've written in a long while, so here goes...

Several months ago I noticed myself getting less than enthused about my practice. You may have noticed that some weekly editions of the newsletter were missed. So what did I do? Instead of using this as a signal - I ignored it (like a dumbo!). It's a bit like continuing to drive a car when a red warning light is flashing in front of you on the dashboard.

So I continued soldiering on (notice the language!) without making any major changes in my practice. Things came to a head on Monday evening when I couldn't function for an important event. And isn't that the way with life? If you don't listen to the little nudges and occasional taps on your forehead, you'll eventually have a bigger thud from above to give you more than a headache :-)

And so it was with me. So in this week's newsletter, I'm going to share with you the thought process I'm going through to get things back on a more passionate track.

Getting the passion back

Here are some things to consider if you want to inject more passion into your coaching practice:

1. Values - A useful little ditty I learned at the start of my coaching career was 'if in doubt, get the values out.' Normally this would be applied to clients but you can use it for your own situation too.

What values are you honouring in your coaching practice? What values are currently being dishonoured?

2. Vision - You most likely know that you become what you think about most of the time. Do you have a compelling vision for the coaching practice your are creating? Does your current vision inspire you and ignite your passion?

3. Passions - If you're looking for a more passionate practice then it makes sense to consider the type of things that you're most passionate about.

Do you know what your passions are? Are they being expressed in the way you have your coaching practice set-up?

4. Talents - Running a successful coaching practice takes time and effort but there's no rule that says it should be unnecessarily hard. So take a look at your talents and what comes most easily for you.

Are you using your talents in your coaching practice or are they being hidden away under a bushel?

I hope the authenticity of this week's newsletter is useful for you. I believe it's important to share the good, the bad and the ugly and not always present world of operating a coaching practice with a pair of rose-tinted spectacles permanently affixed.

Like life, your coaching practice will offer you the occasional 'curve ball' and it's how you respond that's most important.

Oh, and please do let me know what you think of this week's newsletter.

So, do you have a passionate practice?

With very best wishes,

Shaun
