Tips
from George Metcalfe
If
you had the opportunity to ask someone with vast experience
in the coaching world about their tips on attracting clients
do you think their comments would be valuable? Of course they
would be.
Well,
I asked the delightful George
Metcalfe what his top tips would be for coaches struggling
to attract clients in the UK. Here was his response...
1
Attend lots of networking meetings and try
to take some kind of office in the organisations, whatever.
2. Tell everybody that you will coach people
for free but always ask for testimonials and referrals.
3. Take up any opportunity possible for public
speaking to anybody who will hear you.
4. Always ask for referrals and ask for help
in getting new business.
5. Make it clear exactly what you want and
what you want to do.
6. Give examples of coaching stories or successes
whether they're yours or somebody else's.
7. If somebody asks what you do, do not go
into a boring explanation of coaching but ask the key question,
"what is bugging you right now?" after
these questions are answered, the potential client will be
quite often ready to appoint you as coach.
8. Listen out to what other people want and
be prepared to give referrals to them.
9. Coach absolutely everybody whether they
realise or not.
10. Get to know as many other coaches as
possible so that you will be well known within the coaching
community.
11. Don't be held back by your apparent lack of knowledge.
Coaches do not need knowledge, only the ability to ask questions
and be empathetic and challenging.
How
many of the points above are you implementing on a regular basis
in your coaching practice?

Observations on the tips from George...
So
what did you get from the tips from George Metcalfe? Here are
my observations of his valuable tips...
1.
They're within your control - all of the tips above
are within your control and therefore you can do something
to improve your situation. If you want to get different results
in your practice then consider implementing the tips that
are most applicable to you.
2.
You need to be pro-active - there is a great emphasis
in these tips of going out there and making things happen.
Remember that activity breeds results. People will
not come knocking on your door and your telephone will not
ring off the hook if you simply sit at home.
3.
Go the extra mile - note that his tips have an emphasis
on doing all that you can, not just doing the minimum to get
by e.g. attend lots..., tell everybody..., take up any opportunity...,
always ask..., etc.
I'm
reminded of the words of the great personal development speaker
Bob Proctor who said "If you put a little bit in
you'll get a little bit out. If you put a lot more in you'll
get a lot more out."
So,
how many of the tips from George Metcalfe are you implementing?
With very best
wishes,
