Ways to Niche Your Coaching Practice

So far this month you have looked at answering the question Do You Want to Niche? and you now have my 4 Reasons to Niche Your Coaching Practice. In this week's issue, we'll be looking at ways that you could niche your coaching practice should you choose to do so. But first...

> What is a niche?

I like to keep things really simple so here's a brief definition that's easy to understand (hey, even my next door neighbour's 4-year-old child could understand this one):

A niche is a group of people with a common interest

As a niche is a group of people with similar interests it makes them much easier to find and market your coaching services to them. Otherwise, you end up with a nebulous 'target' of anyone and everyone.

So what options do you have to niche your coaching practice?

F'ree Teleclass: How to Niche Your Coaching Practice

On Wednesday, 26th January, 2005 at 8pm UK time, I'll be delivering a teleclass on How to Niche Your Coaching Practice. It's f'ree and I'll be sending out comprehensive notes before and after the teleclass.

To register, just send an e-mail to me. If you do not receive details within 24 hours then please e-mail me and I'll send the details to you personally.

If you've not participated in a teleclass before it really is simple and fun. It's basically a telephone call where a group of people can be on the line at the same time.

> Ways to niche your coaching practice

Here are some ways for you to consider niching your coaching practice:

1. By client type - You could decide to go after a specific type of person e.g. by profession. You may have heard of coaches specialising in the area of coaching doctors, accountants, solicitors, to name but a few examples.

The main benefit of going down this route is that your client type will probably 'hang out' in the same places. They'll have common professional bodies, read the publications from their profession and go to similar conferences and training events. So guess where you can hang out too?

A number of years ago I worked with a coach who specialised in coaching 4 types of people: Accountants, solicitors, coaches and web designers. Wherever they went, he'd go. If a particular group had a conference he would be there. And guess what - he had a full practice with a waiting list too.

2. By subject area- Another option is to niche your practice by focusing on a particular subject area. Many coaches use this approach and use it very well.

For example you may have heard of coaches specialising in confidence, image, wealth - the list of potential subjects is endless.

Is there a particular subject area that fascinates and enthrals you that could be used to identify a potential niche for you?

3. A Mix of the Above - My preference (for a number of reasons) is to mix and match the two approaches mentioned above. Therefore, identify a particular group of people and then coach them in a particular subject area.

I have taken this route in my own practice and it has worked very well indeed. Therefore, I work with coaches specifically and exclusively in the area of building a successful coaching practice.

Please can you help me?

I'm currently in the process of developing my first product on 'How to Niche Your Coaching Practice Successfully.' If you have a specific question in the area of niching your practice that you would like me to answer to you personally then please send me an e-mail. What are you really struggling with in the area of niching your practice?

Do this before Friday, 21st January and I'll also send you the 5 Key Factors for a Pr0fitable Niche. This information can make sure that you choose a niche that will lead to success rather than failure.

So, what way will you niche your coaching practice?

With very best wishes,
