What's Your Conversion Process?

Conversion process? What conversion process? That's the common response I hear from coaches when I ask them the question above. In fact, on last week's teleclass a number of coaches stated that they don't really have a process at all. Psst... they do you know... even if they are not aware of it ;-)

I can assure you that the subject area of conversion is absolutely vital to the success of your coaching practice. Without a conscious process of converting prospects into clients your chances of a success diminish exponentially.

Let me expand to make this more real for you.

Think about the process you use all the way from identifying prospects through to hopefully turning them into clients in your coaching practice. What steps do you use from start to finish? What results are you getting from each step along the way?

I guess you've never thought about doing this up front before to get all the steps out on the table. Once you know your process, you can then begin to question each step along the way and question if it's necessary or how you can improve on it to get better results.

You see, as a former engineer, I take processes for granted. They're in my blood and part of how I view the world. But you most likely do not have the same outlook and this blind spot could be hampering the success of your coaching practice big time.

Processes are crucial to how successful things turn out - whether it is for a bridge, a car or converting clients in your coaching practice. If your client conversion isn't working, it's time to fix it.

> Steps in your process

Here are a number of points to consider about the conversion process you are currently using in your coaching practice:

1. Write it - Write out the steps you use on paper so you can become more aware of what you're doing in the first place.

2. Question it - Ask yourself if the steps you are currently using are the best way of achieving your objectives. Do all of the steps make sense? Also, do you need to use each one?

3. Measure it - As the management dictum says, 'If you measure it, you can manage it.' If possible measure the success of each step along the way. By doing this you'll be able to identify the weak points in your process (i.e. where things begin to fall down) so you can change them.

4. Tweak it - Once you become aware of the parts of your process that aren't working, place your focus there to fix it. Equally, look at the parts of your process that though creating results could be producing much, much more for you.

You can go through the steps above for any process you use in your coaching practice - whether that's for your conversions or anything else.

So, what's your conversion process?

With very best wishes,

Shaun
